  • Being a refugee

khadaksingh 7:42 pm on January 30, 2007 Permalink | Reply

“Art of Flight” is a distressing documentary illustrating the plight of Sudanese refugees fleeing to Egypt.
Conflict in Sudan is one of the oldest ongoing civil war started in late 80’s.
Muslims in North and Christians in south fighting to prove there superiority over the other.
Men talk only of guns and often children are kidnapped to serve the military outfits.
Women, their tale is no different. They are exploited as slave women, bonded labors or concubines.

Dreams of young who believe UNHRC will grant them a refugee status and a resettlement in USA.

Documentary tells a sorry tale of Jeremy who has to stay at home for taking care of his 6 children as Men cannot work and his wife the lone bread winner goes to work on Monday and returns back only on Saturday.

Soulful music by Al-Khafiyeen who play concerts for themselves.

    Is this the same place about which a great poet once said;

  • Salaam Bombay/Shame Mumbai!!!

khadaksingh 3:59 pm on January 27, 2007 Permalink | Reply

Bombay or Mumbai as it is called now is representative of prosperous India, embark of dominance of British rule and later commercial capital of modern, independent India.

Gateway of India standing tall facing Arabian Sea is a symbol of Majestic Indian history.

A sordid tale on 31st December 2006 occurred in full glaze in this resilient Mumbai which responded so stupendously to the 7/11 train explosions.

Hundreds of men had gathered at Gateway of India to enjoy cracker show, marking the onset of New Year. Amidst them was a young lady with a male companion. The crowd was bustling with enthusiasm.

Shadab Khan, a journalist covering this event from a temporary post was astonished as he zoomed his camera. He was baffled to find a bunch of morally pervert scoundrels tearing of the woman’s clothes into pieces and touching her in presence of all. The faint sound of this woman grappling could not be heard in the sea of men. The only man trying to protect her was her companion.

Police reached late as it does in Hindi movies. Police has identified the miscreants based on the pictures taken and have detained few comes as the only consolation.

This is not the only incident reported.Similar incident happened with Lee and Maya , Australian couple visiting India.

    Incredible India!

  • When Parents turn Pimps

khadaksingh 1:30 pm on January 27, 2007 Permalink | Reply

This is another horrendous story of girls being sold for money by none other than their own parents in Andhra Pradesh.

Is it the poverty that is driving people crazy or its lure of money turning men into beasts, selling their daughters for sum of as less as Rs12, 000 (approx $250).

If money is ethics, lust the motivation, sex a commodity that can be bought then parents acting as pimps trading modesty of their innocent minor girls, forcing them into prostitution and sex trade is a sad reality!

  • Where are the Feminists?

Three mishaps engineered by inhuman beings of society are enough to suggest the current plight of women in the developing India.
Government boasts of reaching a growth rate of double digits with the help of morally corrupt workforce.

The incidents are not only morally gross they are vulgar, sickening and disgusting.

First two of them have got immense media coverage however the latest has failed to grab the attention of media.

While the news websites were covering Bipasha dancing with prostitutes in Brazil, Shilpa suffering racism comments after being paid Rs.3Crores to appear in a reality show. Few other channels are busy dissecting SRK’s performance on KBC, the news of a woman being gang raped for no fault of her was missing.

Migrated laborers working in a Scrapyard. Her husband Ablul Karim stole a hammer and sold it for Rs.112 (less than $3) to pay medical expenses of her 3 year old ailing daughter who has suffered a kidney failure.

This information was enough for the owner and 6 others from the same locality to strip
the lesser mortal in front of her wife and child. Tie him to a pole and beat him with iron rods for hours.

They get hold of woman and the child who tried to flee the place to seek some help. The callous and brutal hungry for sex asked the woman to choose between life of her husband and her modesty.

The moral corrupts raped the woman one by one for more than hour in a close building under construction and later killed her Love.

Abdul Karim was given mud when he asked for water.

The only news channel covering this news to a certain extent was NDTV.

While the feminists are busy burning burqa’s , who is going to protect these women in plight?

Where are you Shobana ,Shabana and Taslima?

Very true. The female body has been the site for the patriarchal authority. Thus, in Hindi films the heroine will overtly express her chastity saying, “Main toh Bharatiya Naari Hoon”. This is a convention imposed and expected of the female.

Kishore I agree with you when you say the female body has been the site of patriarchial authority.

What is more disgusting in current events is women joining the chorus with men.
